Borrowed Susan's car to take a side trip to Ballarat. We visited Sovereign Hill, a place depicting the gold rush era in Victoria. Buildings and set up was rebuilt to exact replication even having a foundary and candle making shop. It was a very hot day. Susan cooked a chicken with all the vege trimmings and we met their neighbors, Colleen and Frederick. Played Apples to Apples, a game Colleen and Frederick brought back from the US just recently.

01.06.13
Dean's and Susan's birthdays. Today was partly domestic, doing laundry, and partly birthday celebrating with Susan. Bruce cooked breakfast for all, scrambled eggs on toast with good canadian bacon, coffee, tea and more toast. Went to church with Susan at the Melton Uniting Church. Great service ran by the Walk to Emmaus Community at the church, as the pastor is out on sick leave. Stayed for coffee and met the friendly members. Got to drive for the first time. Not so scary really kinda brought back memories of a life of ages ago. Did laundry, Alan and Bruce did some home chores, Susan and I went for a 50 min walk. We went to dinner at La Porchetta Italian restaurant and saw Life of Pi afterwards. Kinda late to bed tonight. Plan to take Susan's car and do some sightseeing on our own.

Drove with Susan to meet up with Gareth and Kassy to celebrate Susan's birthday. Celebrated at wineries and Innocent Bystander restaurant (Gareth's choice) in Healesville. It was a winery restaurant and was next to a brewery, at which we sampled the beer. Drove back via Melbourne because Bruce left his keys in Kassy's car -- borrowed for the trip from Canberra. Enjoyed chatting with Gareth. A nice young well mannered young man. He currently work ar Mazda.

Sydney here we are!!!
12.27.12 to 12.29.12
Left L A about an hour late ... on an "ancient" 747 Jumbo, a plane we first traveled in the early 1970s. The flight was long and uncomfortable but without incident. We left on the 27th and arrived on the 29th. Took a shuttle bus to The Grace hotel in downtown Sydney. We arrived early for checkin so checked our bags and went exploring ar Darling Harbour. Enjoyed lunch at the harbour and made our way back to check into the hotel. Our room wasn't ready so we hung out until it was ready. Relaxed after dinner and managed to go to bed "on time".
